Death

The title is so melodramatic and blunt, yet due to this day and age, interesting.

I will take a break from focusing on sports to discuss crazy, random events going on from across the street, down I-40, and across the country.

1st up, Michael Jackson. Great musician, one of the best ever! I understand all the attention he has been receiving as of late. However he has become a money train (which is why I believe he is chilling with Tupac and Elvis). It is sad but evidently true. According to an article on Yahoo.com, MJ's memorial service will be broadcasted live on all major stations: CBS, NBC, ABC, and FOX. Also their news related affiliates will also be broadcasting live: HLN, CNN, MSNBC, and FOX News, along with E!. If you happened to lose count that is 9 channels carrying the same footage, just a different person commentating. MJ topped 2.6 million digital sales in the 7 days following his death, and that paced is continuing has been matched by sells in stores as well who have seen upwards of a 56% increase in sales. I am not buying into some crazed theory but it is convenient he dies right before he is to be thrust back into the spotlight combined with his childhood that drove him to become...well him.

2nd up, I got caught up in a terrible drowning in the lake, literally across the street from me. (As a side note: my car was featured as the background for interviews. My car is damn sexy!) As of right now the child, who was on medication for being mental disturbed, drowned in the lake. How he came to leave the boat with his family into the water and not resurfaced has not been clarified but a terrible tragedy to happen on July 4th afternoon.

3rd up, Steve McNair. With a shift back to the purpose of this blog I want to focus on a guy I always admired and felt played the game like a man. Brett Favre has always been tough and a warrior but so has 'Air' McNair. I remember watching Super Bowl XXXIV and the half yard the Titans fell short. It was my first moment where I was truly pissed off about the outcome of any sort of game. Steve McNair was a beast! If he had lost his leg in some accident he probably would of have played. That is an extreme exaggeration but he was the type of player who laid it all on the line and worked hard for everything he got. Steve was not the fastest guy (though not slow), not the best passer, but stable and consistent. Will he get into the Hall? Eh I am not quite sure. Depending on how his death comes out (whether right or wrong) will effect the voters opinions. Steve does not have top 20 numbers in any category, however he is only the 3rd QB with at least 30,000 passing yards and 3,5000 career rushing yards and 37 rushing touchdowns (6 short of Steve Young's record). The other 2 QBs are both Hall of Famers: Randall Cunningham and Steve Young. McNair never did win a Super Bowl which will hurt him and not being a prolific passer. However McNair did a lot for the game in Houston and Nashville, won a Co-MVP with Peyton (an MVP nonetheless) and the 3rd most successful throwing and running quarterback ever, which I believe will get him into the NFL Hall of Fame.
